Founding
The Czech-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce was established on October 30,
2008, in the year of the first official visit of
the Brazilian President (Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva) to the Czech
Republic (April 12, 2008), with the aim of
strengthening diplomatic, commercial, and cultural relations between the
two countries.
On the occasion of President Lula da Silva's state visit to Prague,
Brazil and the Czech Republic signed a contract on
economic and industrial cooperation, mainly addressing the issue of
biofuels, which were not a subject of a similar
contract from 1994. The agreement also deals with agricultural and
technological cooperation and includes cooperation in
transportation and technical procedures and standards.
During his visit, President Lula also emphasized the necessity of
intensifying trade missions between the two countries
and encouraged entrepreneurs to contemplate ways of mutual future
investments.
A number of business missions were also carried out from the Czech side
to
Brazil, which aimed to support the development of Czech-Brazilian
business
relationships. For example, the mission of President Václav Klaus or the
President of the Senate
Milan Štěchy.
Statements
“We plan to cooperate with chambers of commerce from various
areas of Brazil, with the Economic Chamber of the Czech
Republic, the Association of Industry of the Czech Republic, and
with governmental bodies of both countries, especially
with their representatives in the Czech Republic and Brazil. We also
strive to seek intensive cooperation with the
relevant ministries – with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Our
mission is to help entrepreneurs from both countries."
Ing. Petr Polakovič – President of the Czech-Brazilian
Chamber of Commerce
“Brazil has an increasing interest in expanding its trade
relations so as not to be commercially dependent on a few
countries. The Czech Republic is a market that offers Brazil great
opportunities in terms of trade logistics and even
direct production of goods in the country, given its central
geographical position. This is associated with a qualified
and cheaper workforce than what Central European countries
offer.”
Eng. Ticiano Costa Jordão - Vice-President of the
Czech-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce
